Queenslanders leaving school, in need of upskilling, or considering career changes were invited to apply for TAFE Queensland scholarships. TAFE scholarships provide $5000 towards textbooks, living expenses and course fees for study held at TAFE Queensland locations from Semester 1, 2018. Two types of scholarships are available. The first are Merit Scholarships aimed at supporting people who have demonstrated strong levels of achievement to advance their careers. The second are Access & Equity Scholarships designed to help students who are battling social or financial hardship.
TAFE Queensland Gold Coast Region General Manager, Karen Dickinson, said the scholarships provide an opportunity for Queenslanders to develop skills and qualifications to secure jobs in the fastest growing industries. A wonderful example of this is the life-changing year experienced by father of seven, Mark Watego. Mark was fortunate to secure a scholarship in the Diploma of Community Services and expressed, “I am truly appreciative. The scholarship assisted with all TAFE expenses and afforded me the opportunity to study the course I waited so long for”. Mark was awarded South-East Queensland’s Vocational Student of the Year at the Queensland Training Awards 2016.
Applications closed 31 August 2017 and were open to new and current students for studies commencing Semester 1, 2018.
