From school holidays to Christmas and New Year’s (and every other celebration in between), the beauty teachers from TAFE Queensland Gold Coast have five rituals to keep you looking and feeling your best this festive season…

Ritual One: Eyebrows

After a long year, it is hard to find a way to perk up for the Christmas and New Years parties ahead. Brighten your tired eyes by paying more attention to your eyebrows. Define them by getting your eyebrows professionally waxed and shaped, and then use a good eyebrow powder and/or pencil to maintain the shape.

Ritual 2: Primer

To keep your makeup lasting all day, make sure you introduce a primer into your beauty regime. Not only does a primer ensure your makeup lasts all day, but is also creates a smooth canvas ready for flawless makeup application. You do not need a lot of primer – it goes a long way.

Ritual 3: Skin Care

The best start to a beautiful finish is caring for your skin. Don’t sleep in your make up – make sure you take your cleaning routine into a two step process. The first step will remove your makeup but the second cleanse will purify and work on the deeper layers of the skin. Don’t forget to follow with moisturiser – at night it isn’t just your body that can get dehydrated…your face needs moisture too to reduce breakouts and dry areas.

Ritual 4: Golden Glow

To give your skin that golden glow if you aren’t already using a weekly detoxifying exfoliant and mask, add this into your routine. You will be amazed by the difference this makes! If you have sensitive skin, avoid products with heavy fragrances and a notation on the bottle the product is safe for your skin type.

Ritual 5: Tis the Season to check your beauty products

Take the opportunity in the downtime from study to look at your beauty cabinet and make sure products aren’t out of date. If you haven’t used something in awhile – consider whether you should really throw it out and consider the products of the past…do they contain nasties (like sodium lauryl sulphate, parabens and alcohols)? Don’t forget to add some natural alternatives onto your Christmas wish list!
